A doctor identified as Dr. Lamsikreo has been kidnapped by Boko Haram elements on the border between Niger and Chad. The information was reported by the Cameroonian media outlet MMI News.
According to initial reports, the doctor was traveling to Chad to attend his father's funeral, after leaving Niger. He was reportedly intercepted in an ambush in an area known for its insecurity.
The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of 500 million CFA francs in exchange for his release, threatening to execute him if their demands are not met.
So far, neither the Nigerien nor the Chadian authorities have issued an official statement regarding this kidnapping. The doctor's precise identity, the details of his journey, and the exact circumstances of his abduction remain unclear.
The border area between Niger and Chad is regularly the scene of attacks and kidnappings for ransom, perpetrated by Boko Haram and other armed groups. These kidnappings are a significant source of funding for these organizations. Travel in this region, particularly on secondary roads, carries a high risk of ambush.
Boko Haram continues to pose a threat to populations in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, where the group commits sporadic attacks. Despite joint military operations against Boko Haram, attacks against civilians continue in these countries.
