BGFIBank Cameroon has announced an increase in its share capital from FCFA 20 billion to FCFA 50 billion. This decision, approved during the board meeting on February 27, 2026, aims to strengthen the financial base of the Cameroonian subsidiary.

According to an official statement from the bank, this recapitalization demonstrates the Group's "renewed confidence in Cameroon's growth potential and its commitment to supporting the subsidiary's ambitious development".

This initiative comes in a context of tightening regulatory requirements in the CEMAC (Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa) region. The Banking Commission of Central Africa (COBAC) has raised the minimum capital requirement for banks in the sub-region to FCFA 25 billion, from FCFA 10 billion previously. Active institutions have a one-year transition period to comply with this new regulation. Banks not meeting this threshold by December 31, 2026, must submit a capital raising plan to COBAC before June 30, 2026. The main objective of this reform is to consolidate the stability and resilience of the banking system in Central Africa.

By increasing its capital to FCFA 50 billion, BGFIBank Cameroon positions itself well above the minimum requirements, thus strengthening its ability to absorb risks and maneuver in the market. The bank also justifies this decision by its recent performance, showing an 18% increase in net income in the last fiscal year, exceeding the set objectives.

The BGFIBank board of directors considers Cameroon a strategic growth hub for the group, calling on the local subsidiary to play a key role in its regional expansion.

In 2023, BGFIBank Cameroon posted a net profit of FCFA 11 billion and total equity of 600 billion.
