The Douala Inter-Club Athletics Meet, held on March 28 and 29 at the Reunification Stadium, witnessed remarkable performances, confirming the good form of Cameroonian athletes observed at the previous meet in Yaoundé. Three records were broken, potentially paving the way for some athletes to participate in the upcoming African Athletics Championships.
Billy Jospin Takougoum Kuiche, a shot put specialist, achieved a distance of 17.72 meters, improving his previous personal record of 17.28 meters set on May 22, 2021, in Douala. Although still far from the national record, this performance demonstrates his steady progress. In the high jump, Steve Junior Zo'o also improved his personal best, increasing it from 12.12 meters to 12.14 meters.
The most notable performance of the meet was undoubtedly that of sprinter Amayadi, who completed the 100 meters in 10.41 seconds. These results have sparked enthusiasm from the National Technical Director of Athletics, Michel Nkolo, who believes that "the execution plan for 2026 is being realized at an XXL level". He also attributes these successes to the new track at the Douala Reunification Stadium, donated by the African Athletics Confederation.
The Secretary-General of the Cameroonian Athletics Federation, Charles Kouoh Kotte, also expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing the emergence of promising young talent. Michel Nkolo announced that more surprises could occur during the third meet scheduled for Bafoussam on April 25. These competitions are crucial for identifying and preparing athletes who will represent Cameroon at upcoming African and international competitions, including the African Championships.
