Dr. Ateh Bazore was re-elected as the head of the National Society of Musical Art (SONACAM) during the elective general assembly on April 30, 2026. The former journalist and host at CRTV, also a musical artist, secured more than 93% of the votes cast, totaling 733 votes. His opponent, Messi Ambroise, received 45 votes despite announcing his withdrawal, and seven blank ballots were recorded.
This result marks the beginning of a new five-year term for Ateh Bazore, who was initially elected in December 2020. His campaign focused on consolidating achievements, highlighting the nine distributions of royalties made under his leadership to over 1,500 artists. He also emphasized the establishment of a minimum wage (SMIC) of 25,000 FCFA for artists.
In addition to the re-election of the president, the general assembly saw the establishment of a Supervisory Board. This body is responsible for ensuring the regularity of financial operations and the transparency of SONACAM's management.
His Majesty Patriarch Eko Roosevelt was elected as the chairman of this council, with Albert Premier as vice-chairman. Johnny Bossman, holding a Master's degree in Accounting and Management, will hold the position of rapporteur, ensuring technical analysis, auditing, and verification of accounting documents.
The new term is expected to focus on consolidating achievements and securing the income of musical creators. A major project to construct three Palaces of Music in Yaoundé, Douala, and Bamenda, in partnership with Deutsche Bank USA and EPSTEIN & SONS, is also underway. SONACAM is expected to officially join CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) on June 30, 2026, allowing for better protection of Cameroonian artists' rights internationally.
