A particularly shocking act of domestic violence occurred in Yaoundé, leaving a young woman seriously injured. The incident took place on the evening of Thursday, March 30, in the Fin Goudron neighborhood, in Soa, on the outskirts of the Cameroonian capital.

According to testimonies collected on the spot, the victim was brutally attacked by her partner, identified as Ondoua Elé. The aggressor allegedly used a razor blade and a wooden bat with nails to inflict multiple wounds on his partner. The scene reportedly unfolded after a dispute, the exact reasons for which remain to be determined.

Left for dead in a pool of blood, the victim was rescued by local residents alerted by the noise of the altercation. They provided first aid before rushing her to a hospital for medical attention.

Ondoua Elé fled immediately after the attack. The competent authorities were notified and an investigation has been opened to find the suspect and shed light on the exact circumstances of this aggression. This incident highlights the persistent problem of domestic violence in Cameroon, where many women are victims of such attacks. In the absence of a specific law on domestic violence, victims often have little recourse to obtain effective protection.

Studies show that gender-based violence, including domestic violence, remains a major problem in Yaoundé. One study revealed that 45.8% of women surveyed had experienced physical violence. The causes of this violence are multiple, including jealousy, insolence, and refusal to have sexual relations. Cameroonian society is called upon to exercise increased vigilance in the face of these unacceptable acts.

In February 2026, an infanticide shook the Nkolbisson district of Yaoundé, prompting the government to call for national vigilance. These tragic events underscore the urgency of strengthening prevention and support mechanisms for victims of violence within families. The opened investigation will, it is hoped, bring the aggressor to justice and provide some comfort to the victim.
