Cameroonian midfielder Arnold Mael Kamdem, who plays in Brazil, continues to enjoy the confidence of coach David Pagou. After raising eyebrows during the 2025 AFCON, Kamdem has been called up again to participate in the FIFA Series tournament currently taking place in Australia.
Kamdem's initial call-up in December 2025 had already raised eyebrows. Called up at the last minute to replace Fidel Brice Ambina, his club, Sinop Sport Clube, was then playing in the Brazilian sixth division. This selection raised questions, particularly because of the level of the division in which he was playing.
Some observers recalled that Kamdem had already played under David Pagou at Renaissance de Ngoumou. "The new coach has therefore preferred to rely on a trusted man rather than a higher quality element," commented Le Parisien Sport, pointing out that Cameroon had never called up a player playing in such a low division of a foreign league.
Kamdem made his debut for the Indomitable Lions on December 31, 2025, in the third group match against Mozambique, contributing to his team's 2-1 victory. "It's a dream come true. I was very proud to be able to defend the colors of the country," he said.
His presence in the Cameroonian team for the FIFA Series in Australia is once again raising questions. According to his online biography, Kamdem is a defensive midfielder known for his tactical discipline and game intelligence. His participation in these international tournaments could be an opportunity to showcase his skills to European clubs and agents. The Indomitable Lions will face Australia on March 27 and China on March 31 as part of this tournament.
Several players have already arrived in Sydney to prepare for these matches, including Kamdem. These matches are part of the FIFA Series, an initiative to promote friendly matches between national teams from different confederations.
