André Onana's time at Manchester United appears to be drawing to a close. Currently on loan at Trabzonspor in Turkey, the Cameroonian goalkeeper is not expected to return to Old Trafford, as Manchester United has decided to sell him. The English club has set the asking price for the former Ajax player at €30 million.
Onana, 29, joined Manchester United in 2023 from Inter Milan for approximately €52.5 million. His time in England has been marked by inconsistent performances, leading the club to recruit Senne Lammens. Despite a contract running until 2028, Manchester United no longer counts on the Cameroonian.
Trabzonspor does not seem willing to exercise the option to buy Onana, mainly due to his high salary. In addition, his recent performances have been criticized. A return to Italy, and more specifically to Inter Milan, has been mentioned. Onana left a good impression in Milan, where he played a key role in the team's journey to the Champions League final in 2023.
Onana's representatives have reportedly already started discussions with Inter Milan regarding a potential transfer. The goalkeeper also still owns a residence in Milan. However, the financial situation of the Italian club could be an obstacle.
Manchester United hopes to quickly reach an agreement for Onana's transfer as soon as the transfer window opens. The future of the Cameroonian goalkeeper, therefore, seems to be written far from England and Turkey, with a possible return to Italy as the most likely destination.
