André Onana's adventure at Manchester United may be coming to an end. Despite the goalkeeper's desire to return to Old Trafford and fight for his place, Manchester United are actively looking to find him a new club during the summer transfer window.
Arriving at Manchester United in 2023 for around 55 million euros, including bonuses, Onana had a difficult start, alternating between inconsistent performances and costly errors. The club finally opted for a loan to Trabzonspor, where he is currently playing. During his time at Old Trafford, Onana made 102 appearances, conceding 150 goals and keeping 24 clean sheets, winning one FA Cup.
According to ESPN, Manchester United want to part ways with Onana permanently but face a major obstacle: his salary. His earnings, estimated at £175,000 a week, could deter potential buyers. Manchester United's return to the Champions League for the 2026/27 season could even lead to a salary increase, further complicating the situation.
Alongside the Onana situation, Manchester United are actively reshaping their goalkeeping department. Senne Lammens, who arrived last summer, has established himself as the number one. Altay Bayindir, meanwhile, could leave the club. Manchester United are also reportedly considering recruiting a new backup goalkeeper.
Despite a contract running until 2028, André Onana's future therefore seems to be written away from Manchester United. The club will have to find a solution to part ways with the Cameroonian goalkeeper, while managing the thorny issue of his salary.
