An ammonia leak in the Dibombari subdivision of Cameroon has affected six people. Firefighters from the 20th Fire Brigade Group responded to the reported leak.
The victims were quickly evacuated to a health facility before the arrival of emergency services. Firefighters stated that the situation was brought under control thanks to their professionalism and the support of technicians from the company involved.
A security perimeter was established by the firefighters to secure the intervention zone and prevent any additional risks.
Ammonia is a colorless gas with a strong, penetrating odor, used in various sectors such as industrial refrigeration, agriculture, and chemical processing. Ammonia leaks can be caused by corrosion, equipment failure, or human error. Exposure to ammonia can lead to irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, as well as respiratory problems. In higher concentrations, it can cause skin burns, lung damage, and even asphyxiation.
The rapid response of the emergency services helped limit the consequences of this incident. The situation is now under control, and the competent authorities are investigating the causes of this leak to prevent future similar incidents.
