The Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) officially announced the appointment of Amir Abdou as the new head coach of the Stallions this Sunday, March 1st. The 53-year-old Comorian coach succeeds Brama Traoré, who was dismissed in January following the team's elimination in the round of 16 of the 2025 AFCON.
The appointment follows a call for applications launched by the FBF. The governing body claims to have carefully studied the different profiles before choosing Amir Abdou. His main mission will be to "take the reins of the Burkina Faso A team," according to the terms used by the federation.
Amir Abdou arrives in a context of reconstruction for the Stallions. Brama Traoré was removed from his post on January 14, 2026, after the 3-0 defeat against Côte d'Ivoire in the round of 16 of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, which meant a premature elimination.
The new coach has significant experience on the African continent. He notably led the Comoros to their first qualification for the AFCON in 2021, hosted in Cameroon. Subsequently, he managed Mauritania, also leading them to the 2023 AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire. These experiences highlight his ability to develop and manage national teams, an essential asset for his new role.
Amir Abdou's main task will be to revitalize the Burkina Faso team. Regularly present on the continental scene, they must recover from the disappointment of the last AFCON.
