Former Indomitable Lions midfielder Alexandre Song has lauded the new headquarters of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), which was officially inaugurated in Yaoundé this Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Song, who arrived directly from South Africa, made it a point to attend the event, viewing it as a strong signal for Cameroonian football. "I wasn't there, I was in South Africa. I just landed," he stated, emphasizing the importance of his presence to mark the occasion.
The former FC Barcelona and Arsenal player praised FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto'o's initiative in realizing this project, describing it as "sumptuous" and "magnificent". He believes that a federation of Cameroon's stature should possess infrastructure that matches its footballing history.
"What we are seeing today is the inauguration of the Federation's headquarters, and the president should be congratulated for what he has done, because it is something sumptuous, something magnificent. For Cameroonian football, having a headquarters like this is something important," he affirmed.
Song emphasized that the new headquarters is an important symbol for a federation that represents one of the greatest footballing nations in Africa. He also highlighted the need for Cameroonian institutions to have modern infrastructure to support the development of football in the country.
The new FECAFOOT headquarters, located in the Warda district of Yaoundé, is presented as one of the flagship projects initiated by Samuel Eto'o since he took over the federation in 2021. The building houses administrative offices, conference rooms, and a press center, providing an improved working environment for FECAFOOT staff and partners.
The inauguration was preceded by a gala football match and a concert. CAF President Patrice Motsepe was present to inaugurate the new headquarters. This project, initially launched in 2012, faced interruptions before being revived under Samuel Eto'o's leadership. The construction of this ultramodern headquarters demonstrates the commitment to professionalizing Cameroonian football and strengthening its influence on the continental and international stage.
