The case involving Aïcha Kamoise has taken a contentious turn, with her lawyers publicly denouncing what they describe as serious irregularities in the judicial procedure. The firm of Me Yannick Djemeni issued a statement on April 22, 2026, expressing strong concerns about the handling of their client, Wete Aïcha's case.
At the heart of the concerns raised by the defense is the question of the initial jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor at the Mfoundi High Court. According to the lawyers, this court was not competent to hear the case, given that the alleged facts constitute an offense, as defined by the Cameroonian Penal Code. The defense also protests the issuance of an arrest warrant against Aïcha Kamoise, pointing out that she had never been summoned beforehand by law enforcement.
After the transfer of the case to the Yaoundé-Center Administrative Court of First Instance, Aïcha Kamoise was heard on April 21, before being sent back to the judicial police for a confrontation with her accusers. The defense lawyers question the relevance of this confrontation, arguing that the plaintiffs reside in the United Arab Emirates, making their physical presence in the short term unlikely. They believe that keeping their client in custody pending a hypothetical confrontation constitutes a violation of her rights.
Another point of contention concerns the initially planned release of Aïcha Kamoise by the Public Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance. According to the defense, this decision was blocked by an intervention of the Central Attorney General's Office, thus fueling suspicions of interference in the judicial procedure. The firm of Me Djemeni Yannick denounces a "sequestration" and a custody that it considers illegal, estimating that the duration of detention could reach 120 hours, despite attempts to release on bail.
