As part of their preparation for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2026, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will face the Super Falcons of Nigeria. The friendly match will take place at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé this Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Nigeria, the titleholder and most successful nation in the competition with 10 trophies, has chosen Cameroon to fine-tune its preparation. This test match will allow the technical staff of both teams to assess their squads before the AFCON, scheduled for March in Morocco. The Super Falcons arrived in Yaoundé a few days ago to begin their preparation.
Nigeria's coach, Justine Madugu, will use this match to evaluate his team against quality opposition. Two friendly matches are scheduled, with the second taking place on March 3. Madugu traveled from Abuja with his technical staff and home-based players, while the foreign-based players will join the group directly in Yaoundé.
Nigeria has been placed in Group C of the AFCON alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi, while Cameroon will compete in Group D with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mali. While Nigeria remains the leading nation in African women's football, competition has intensified with the emergence of nations such as Zambia and Ghana.
Beyond fitness assessments, these friendlies will serve as a high-intensity rehearsal against a well-known opponent, providing both teams with a final opportunity to sharpen their competitive edge before the start of the continental tournament in Morocco. The four semi-finalists of the 2026 AFCON will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Brazil.
