The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has officially responded to the incident that occurred during the 2026 Cameroon Super Cup, which took place on February 26 at the military stadium in Yaoundé. A statement signed by the Secretary-General of FECAFOOT was released on February 27, emphasizing that the match referee performed his duty appropriately in the face of Colombe du Sud's abandonment of the match.

According to the statement, the referee's attitude was deemed exemplary in the face of Colombe du Sud's decision to leave the field. FECAFOOT confirmed that the file including the reports from match officials has been forwarded to the competent legal committees for review and decision. These committees are now responsible for approving the match result, taking the necessary sanctions and determining the awarding of the trophy.

The 2026 Super Cup pitted Panthère du Ndé, winner of the 2025 Cameroon Cup, against Colombe du Sud, reigning champion of Elite One. The match took a controversial turn when Colombe du Sud decided to leave the field to protest a penalty awarded to Panthère du Ndé in the 64th minute, converted by Georges Mbarga Atedzoe to equalize at 1-1. Prior to that, Bayebahe Lima Steve had opened the scoring for Colombe in the 2nd minute.

Colombe's protests intensified after the expulsion of their captain, Randy Ntube Kwalar, which led to the abandonment of the match in the 70th minute. The incident took place in the presence of FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto'o.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of financial and institutional tensions, with the chairman of Colombe's board of directors, Dr. Doko Edjiane, having publicly denounced the non-payment of bonuses awarded by FECAFOOT. Some observers believe that the abandonment of the match is less a reaction to a refereeing decision than a sign of rupture.

Colombe Sportive du Sud faces heavy sanctions for abandoning the match. The case will be reviewed by FECAFOOT's Homologation and Disciplinary Committee, with the possibility of appeal. In the meantime, the image of Cameroonian football has suffered another setback.

FECAFOOT had already suspended referees earlier this year for controversial decisions. The homologation commission will have to take a position and rule on this case.
