The Yaoundé Conference Centre vibrated on February 27, 2026, to the rhythm of the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony, an evening dedicated to celebrating the talents that marked the 2024-2025 football season in Cameroon. The event was graced by the presence of the First Lady, Mrs. Chantal Biya, whose applause and smiles encouraged the laureates.
The evening culminated in the crowning of Serge Daura, a player from Gazelle FA of Garoua, with the title of Men's Ballon d'Or. Daura, who was also named the season's top scorer with 15 goals, surpassed Boris Mfoumou and Konrad Nfanseu to win the prestigious trophy. In the women's category, Lys Fraiche Tiwa was named Women's Ballon d'Or. The 17-year-old striker from Lekié FF had an exceptional season, scoring 22 goals in 19 Super League matches.
However, the ceremony was marked by an unexpected incident. Just before the presentation of the Men's Ballon d'Or, a power outage plunged the hall into darkness in the presence of the First Lady. This incident, although brief, raised questions about the availability of backup power systems in a prestigious venue like the Conference Centre.
Despite this interruption, power was restored a few minutes later, allowing Serge Daura to receive his award. In addition to their trophies, Daura and Tiwa each received a Jetour car, thanks to the partnership between FECAFOOT and Sky Motors. The national coach, David Pagou, was also honored with a financial reward and a year of free internet access.
FECAFOOT had announced that this edition of the Ballon d'Or would be more significant than previous ones, with substantial rewards for the winners. The selection criteria were based on individual and collective performance, fair play, and conduct on and off the field.
Apart from the power outage incident, the ceremony was considered a success. The event highlighted the talents of Cameroonian football and rewarded the players and coaches who distinguished themselves during the 2024-2025 season. Serge Daura and Lys Fraiche Tiwa were the stars of a memorable evening, despite the unforeseen event.
